A FAMILY were left terrified after a trio of masked robbers burst into their home and stole cash.

The raid happened in Leven Road in Wemyss Bay at 8pm last night.

The men forced entry when three occupants were in the house at the time - a 62-year-old woman and two children.

They were uninjured but left extremely shaken by the experience.

Detectives at Greenock are today hunting the three men, who got away with a two-figure sum of cash.

All are described as being approximately 20-30-years-old and they spoke with Scottish accents.

One was around 6ft tall, wearing dark clothing including a hooded top and grey trainers.

The second is described as being approximately 5ft 8in tall and wore a green t-shirt, dark hooded top and grey trainers.

The final man is described as being around 5ft 9in tall and was also wearing dark clothing and grey trainers.

All of the men had their faces covered during the incident.

Detective Inspector David Wagstaff of Greenock CID said: "These three men subjected the occupants of the house, including a woman and two children, to a terrifying experience in their home.

"We are making every effort to identify them and would urge anyone with information to come forward as soon as they can.

"Anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity or vehicles around the area is asked to make contact, along with anyone who may have dashcam footage or private CCTV which could assist our investigation.

"There have been other incidents of robbery and theft elsewhere in Renfrewshire in recent days, specifically in Renfrew, Linwood and Elderslie. We are keeping an open mind about links between these incidents, although there are similarities between each crime.

"I would urge local residents to be mindful of this and report any concerns about suspicious activity to us as promptly as they can.

“Local officers will also be in the community conducting additional patrols over the next few days as our investigation continues."
