A FRAIL Greenock pensioner has told how a pair of robbers burst into his flat and left him for dead.

The 78-year-old victim was pinned to the floor by violent Jacqueline McElwee before the thug knocked him unconscious.

McElwee and her unknown accomplice fleeced the OAP of cash and bottles of alcohol during the terrifying after-dark raid.

The man told Greenock Sheriff Court: "I'll never forget those big black teeth of hers.

"When I came to, I just started crying."

McElwee has now been locked up awaiting sentence after a jury of nine women and five men found her guilty of assault, robbery and fraudulent use of the pensioner's bank card.

She was introduced to her victim by a homeless female pal who had befriended the man a few days earlier and was being put up by him at his Inverkip Street flat.

He told the court that around £300 was missing from his wallet following the attack on April 30 last year.

The senior citizen said: "The doorbell rang and I opened the door and it burst in on me and knocked me over.

"There must have been two of them because I was pinned on the floor by Jackie McElwee by my shoulders.

"I couldn't say who was behind her.

"I was lying on my back and I turned and, bang, I was out of the game.

"I got hit on the head with something.

"I think it was a vodka bottle, but I'm not sure.

"I blacked out but I know they had to step over my body to get into the living room.

"I could have been dead for all they cared."

Thieving McElwee, formerly of Neil Street in Greenock, then took the senior citizen's bank card to the Costcutter shop on Roxburgh Street and pretended to be its lawful holder.

She used it to buy goods to the value of £25.98, taking advantage of the contactless payment system.

The jury unanimously found her guilty of that charge and by majority for the assault and robbery.

She is due to be sentenced on October 23.
