TINY tots are learning to love gymnastics with their grandparents by their side.

Inverclyde Gymnastics Club has introduced a parent and child class to introduce toddlers to balancing and jumping.

Coach Christine Anderson has seen a surge in the number of grannies and grandads on the circuit.

She said: "Many years ago it was unheard of that any dads or grandparents came along but now times have changed.

"It is mostly grandparents - especially grandads - who bring along their grandchildren."

The club has been developing talent in the sport for the last 20 years running classes for toddlers right up through the ranks.

In the younger classes the children are taught fundamental fine motor skills using the bars, trampette, soft play and hand apparatus.

Together the youngsters walk their grandparents through a warm up, free play, a main activity and then there is a song to finish.

Christine added: "This teaches the children lifelong skills at a very young age which will help them continue to have a healthy life."

The classes also help with social skills and interaction with other children and there are groups for nursery, to school age and upwards.

All the classes run in Dazzles Dance Studio in Greenock's George Square.
