SCHOOLKIDS became fraud squad investigators for the day as part of a special financial education class.

Staff from the Royal Bank of Scotland visited St Andrew's Primary to deliver MoneySense - a free financial education programme for children.

The free workshops, organised to coincide with Maths Week Scotland, highlighted the dangers of giving away details online.

As well as learning how to avoid online crime the children also picked up budgeting skills.

Teacher Julie Carroll said: "Eight classes took part and the focus was on money.

"It's about developing their skills for life and work in the future."

Pupils Eve Regan and Makayla Cannon, both aged 11, said they learned a great deal from the masterclass.

Eve told the Tele: "We've been learning about fraud and not to share our personal information as people can get hold of it."

Gill Field, who works in the project team at the RBS Mortgage Centre, says it's so important that young people learn about the value of money and the dangers of fraud.

She said: "It's a great workshop as the kids learn so much.

"You're never too young to learn about fraud and how to protect your identity."

Lisa Lauffer, an RBS community banker, added: "The kids love these sessions and they're learning a life skill."
