A FAB five of local firms are showing will power to support people in Inverclyde who have life-limiting illnesses.

People who make wills this month at local solicitors' offices will not be charged for the service.

Instead they'll be encouraged to donate and help the hospice.

Elaine McNeill, from Ardgowan's fundraising department, say they are so grateful to all the solicitors involved.

She said: "This is an amazing service to offer to the community and getting all the solicitors involved is fantastic.

"This is about helping people to prepare for the future but at the same time helping the hospice."

One participating solicitor, Charlene Duncan, of Neill Clerk and Murray, said: "We have always helped support the hospice.

"It's great to give something back to the community."

Liz McDonald, charity relations manager at fellow participants McClure's, said that by being involved in the 'Gift in Wills' month initiative they have raised £185k for the hospice since December 2016.

She said: "I think most local people have some connection to the hospice.

"This is about the community pulling together to try and continue to raise money."

The funds raised will support hospice care for more than 1,000 people in Inverclyde and support their families. The solicitors are offering to amend existing wills, as well as writing a new one.

People will also have the opportunity to leave a gift in their will.

The participating solicitors are: Cook, Stevenson & Co (tel: 722100); Kingsley Wood & Co (tel: 01505 874114); McClure's (tel: 0800 852 1999); Neill Clerk & Murray (tel: 724522); Patten and Prentice (tel: 720306).
