DISGRACEFUL dumpers have sparked anger after blatantly abandoning a pile of rubbish at a closed-down recycling centre.

The material, which appears to have been stripped from a house, includes a carpet and linoleum.

It was left strewn across the access road at the former Craigmuschat Quarry, where a temporary depot is no longer in operation.

The dumpers ignored signs making it clear that the recycling site is shut and that waste should be taken to the nearby depot at Kirn Drive.

Instead they simply left it for council staff to deal with.

A Gourock resident who contacted the Tele to report the case said: "The people who did this are a disgrace.

"Everyone is well aware the recycling site had shut down - and there is also a sign at the entrance saying it is closed.

"The fact they have still dumped this stuff here shows how ignorant, selfish and lazy they are.

"They just expect other people to clear up their mess.

"I hope they are caught and hammered with a heavy fine."

The council had been operating a temporary depot at the old quarry as a short-term replacement while the Kirn Drive site was upgraded.

It closed a couple of weeks ago and signs were put up directing people to Kirn Drive.
