A PICTURE perfect family trio of young artists drew from Inverclyde's identity for an exhibition which has canvassed widespread praise.

Multi-award winning textile crafter Ben Kretowicz, his younger brother Jack and their cousin Nathan Docherty displayed a dazzling collection of pieces at Gourock Heritage Centre.

Ben's painstaking work — which can take up to three months to complete — Jack's screen prints and Nathan's photographic compositions showcased the district and its history.

The artists, all pupils of Clydeview Academy, brought large numbers of admirers to the exhibition — including Provost Martin Brennan, who said he was 'very impressed' by the quality of work.

Ben, a Royal Scottish Academy of Art prizewinner, said: "We wanted to show our work, with a theme of identity and what it means to us.

"We included local landmarks and images which form part of our collective history.

"It was really well attended and people were very interested in the work and how it was done.

"It was definitely a source of pride for all three of us."

First year pupil Jack's linocut prints take inspiration from Inverclyde's proud shipbuilding heritage while his screen prints are similar in style to pop artist Roy Lichtenstein.

Keen photographer and S6 student Nathan selected his top ten pictures of Inverclyde landmarks, displaying a creative use of camera techniques.

Ben — who came top in a 7,000-strong field in 2017 to win the Tesco Bank Art Competition for Schools — Jack and Nathan are all self-taught.

The young artists led workshops during the weekend event, with the work of those taking part now set to form part of a Renfrewshire Tapestry community project.

Ben said: "We'd like to thank the heritage centre for the use of the venue, Seagull Gallery and Studio Flowers, as well as The Wee Crafty Owl, Hearts and Stitches and Material Things, of Greenock, for supplies and support.

"We also thank the 70th Beaver Scout Group and Reach for Autism for allowing us to deliver our workshops."

Ben and Jack's mum, Jillian, said: "I am extremely proud of all of the boys.

"The only word to describe their work is outstanding."
