GREENOCK'S fast food scene is set for added spice as a second town centre piri-piri chicken shop prepares to open its doors.

Black Rooster Peri Peri will soon be trading at the former Burger King restaurant on West Blackhall Street.

Full-window display signs at the premises have been emblazoned with the company's logo and the message 'coming soon'.

The Tele told in September how a Pepe's Piri Piri eaterie is to open just along the road, at the former Gift Emporium shop.

Black Rooster announced earlier this year that it was moving into Inverclyde but the exact location of its latest outlet was unknown until now.

The company has shops on Glasgow's Duke Street and in Pollokshaws, Paisley, Possilpark and Coatbridge.

Its Greenock branch will be one of a trio of new restaurants as part of an expansion plan.

In a statement bosses said: "Black Rooster is excited to announce that we are opening another three new locations this year.

"We will be coming to Greenock, Govan and Cumbernauld.

"We will keep you up to date with our progress and expected opening dates."

Meanwhile, bosses of the franchise Pepe's Piri Piri have said they are set to create up to 20 new jobs.

Omar Asghar, one of the owners of the Greenock venture, said: "We're very excited to bring Pepe's Piri Piri, the home of fresh flame grilled chicken, to the good people of Greenock.

"I'm sure this will create a real buzz in the area.

"One of the UK's best franchises will be right at their doorstep."

It is planned for Pepe's to open before Christmas.
