A SUPER sister act have won the first bowling trophy in memory of a much loved coach.

Siblings Anna and Alice McClafferty teamed up to make a winning pair in a poignant tournament at Gourock Park.

They played for silverware in tribute to Andrew Kearns, a devoted club member who lost his battle with cancer last January aged 81.

For many years he had helped bring through junior players at the club, so officials decided to set up a trophy in his honour.

Andrew's proud wife Elizabeth said: "It really meant a lot to me to see the young ones play for the trophy.

"I am delighted the girls won it.

"Andrew loved the bowling club and helping the kids to play.

"The bowling club was such a huge part of his life and this is a great honour."

Andrew, who was from Cedar Place in Gourock, was remembered fondly by everyone on the day.

Fourteen-year-old Anna, of Notre Dame High, took to the green with her little sister Alice, 11, of Whinhill Primary, but just days later they took one another on in the Junior Singles match for the club championship.

In the end it was big sister Anna who went home the winner.

But a determined Alice said: "Now my ambition in bowling is to beat my sister!"

The girls spend May to September playing throughout Inverclyde and are also keen swimmers with Inverclyde Amateurs.

Proud dad Barry, who is also a keen bowler, said: "They take after their dad with their love of bowling.

"They did very well and they were pleased to win the trophy in memory of Andrew."
