TWO twinkled-toed Greenock dancers proved their were a step ahead as they grabbed festival glory.

Millie Shearer, eight, was named as national champion at the Renfrewshire Annual Competition in the Gamble Halls in Gourock.

The talented youngster excelled in The Flora MacDonald and the Scottish Lilt dances to be named as winner.

She has been a pupil at Linda Jackson's Dance Academy since she was four.

Teacher Linda Jackson said: "It was a big event with lots of dancers from all over Scotland taking part.

"Millie has been dancing for half her life. She's a lovely wee girl and so dedicated. She is also very talented at what she does

"My dancers travel all across Scotland to take part in competitions but it was extra special for Millie to win such a prestigious a competition on her own doorstep."

The event is run by the Scottish Official Board of Highland Dancing.

Little Miah McCreadie also brought home two medals in her first ever competition.

Miah, who is only four, won medals for her performances in the pas de basque and pas de basque and high cuts sections.

She has only been dancing for a year and Linda was full of praise for her achievement.

Linda said: "She has been working very hard and was desperate to impress as it was her first competition.

"She's doing great and is very committed to her dancing, so winning two medals was a real boost to her.

"I am proud of all my dancers, they all work very hard and really enjoy competing."

The competition was the last of the school's dance season and Linda was delighted her girls got to sign off in style.

She said: "It was lovely to end the season on such a high."
