SPORTY pupils showed true grit to tackle a testing outdoor challenge.

Tyres, tunnels and a steep hill were some of the obstacles the children from Kilmacolm Primary School successfully negotiated as part of the fun outdoor 'Tuff Mudder' event.

High-flying Inverclyde wrestler Lucha DS also came along to cheer on the young athletes.

The event was organised by the P5 class teacher, Mrs Linda Isaksen.

She said: "I came up with the idea after participating in a few obstacle courses with my own children.

"The pupils really enjoyed the experience, particularly the obstacles and the mud.

"I could see how it gave them confidence to challenge themselves."

This inspired Mrs Isaksen to get the whole school and nursery involved.

She added: "I wanted to organise an event that encouraged everyone to take part, be active and have fun.

"By adding some obstacles and mud to a cross country route, the children really did get the opportunity to get active and enjoy the outdoors."

The whole school took part in the competition while tots from the nursery took part in their own event.
