A SINGER from Port Glasgow enjoyed a hero's welcome home - after being invited to perform with one of his music idols.

Jack Vize was stunned when ex-Seahorses frontman Chris Helme asked him to play guitar during his recent set at McGeochs in Greenock, formerly Harwoods.

The 17-year-old shared the microphone with him for a rendition of the band's most famous song, 'Love Is the Law'.

The former St Stephen's High pupil, who had previously recorded his own version of the track and posted it on social media, says it is a moment he will never forget.

Jack told the Tele: "It was like a dream come true.

"The Seahorses is one of my favourite bands of all time. It was probably the best night of my life."

Jack, who is now studying music and music business at West College Scotland in Greenock, was thrilled just to meet Helme let alone duet with him.

But the singer already knew all about the Port teenager's rising star thanks to local lecturer and promoter Andrew 'McD' McDermid.

Jack said: "McD sent Chris a few videos, including one of me playing 'Love Is the Law', which went on Facebook and got a very good response.

"When Chris came in, he said he was going to ask McD to speak to me anyway.

"It was all a bit mental, just to be there talking to Chris Helme was amazing but to play with him was surreal."

The Seahorses - former by guitarist John Squire following his departure from The Stone Roses - enjoyed huge success in the late-90s and famously played in Greenock during their early days.

Their album, 'Do It Yourself', reached number two in the UK charts in '97 and they had two top-10 singles.

Port rocker Jack ensured he made the most of his collaboration with Helme during the recent gig.

Jack said: "He was on stage and said 'there's a young man here who can play this tune a bit better than me' and asked me up.

"We sang it together and the crowd seemed to love it.

"It was an amazing experience."
