BEDTIME reading was enjoyed during the day by Inverclyde school pupils to celebrate a national book event.

Pupils at Kilmacolm Primary snuggled down with blankets, torches and cuddly toys to read their favourite stories to mark Book Week Scotland.

Mrs Ailie Glover, the P7 teacher who helped to organise the event, said it was a great way to inspire the children to read.

She told the Tele: "The children got snuggled up and cosy in the school hall.

"The lights were dimmed and the children read stories for half an hour.

"It was absolutely wonderful as the pupils could read in a very relaxing atmosphere.

"The pupils were all so focused and it was amazing to see so many young people reading at the one time."

Every class in the school took part with the older children reading stories to the little ones.

The Tele were invited to the 'in the dark' reading session with the P5, P6 and P7 pupils.

Mrs Glover says it's a great way to encourage kids to read before bedtime.

She added: "I think it will encourage children to read as part of their bedtime routine, even for just 10 or 15 minutes before bed.

"Hopefully it'll encourage them to do it more often by us replicating that."

The event was one of several organised by the school to mark Book Week Scotland.
