A KIND schoolgirl is sprinkling some magic to help families put presents underneath Christmas trees in Inverclyde.

Nine-year-old Skye McCabe and her helpers have made up more than 200 bags of reindeer dust to raise money which will purchase toys for needy kids.

The Aileymill Primary pupil is ready to play Santa by working her way down a Christmas list packed full of gifts for girls and boys.

Over the last four years Skye has passed on hundreds of presents for the Tesco Greenock toy appeal.

Skye, from Branchton Road, said: "My favourite part is going shopping to buy all the toys.

"I think there will be lots of LOL dolls this year.

"I just want to make sure every boy and girl has a toy at Christmas.

"No one should be left without a present.

"It makes me sad to think that could happen.

"I want to make sure no-one is left out this Christmas."

For the last four years Skye, who has a two-year-old brother Ross, has spent time making up reindeer cones to sell on to people locally.

The primary five pupil then uses the money to buy gifts to donate to the Tesco appeal.

Her proud mum Nicole Hendry said: "Skye asks to do it every year.

"We get help to make the cones - it takes a lot of work and we have to stock up on the porridge oats!

"It is worth it to go round and buy the presents.

"We both go to the shops together and last year she raised hundreds of pounds.

"We are so grateful to everyone who buys the reindeer food."

Fashion store Unique, in the Oak Mall, Watson's Craft Butchers in Kilblain Street and Tesco's Greenock petrol station are all selling Skye's reindeer dust, costing £1 a cone.
