ROOKIE readers have been left inspired following a visit from their favourite author.

Top children's writer Lisa Thompson proved a big hit with bookworms at Kilmacolm Primary as part of Book Week Scotland.

The popular author held a question and answer session with youngsters followed by creative writing workshops.

Head teacher Simone McCredie said: "Lisa has written amazing children's books.

"Our primary six class read The Goldfish Boy as their class novel and absolutely loved it and primaries 5, 6 and 7 read The Light Jar as their class novel.

"She did a 45-minute assembly with a question and answer session and three writing workshops.

"The visit was an amazing day as she is one of our favourite authors."

Pupil Aaron Metior was so impressed he has now starting writing his own book.

Aaron told the Tele: "I went home and said to my mum that I wanted to write my own.

"I've already started writing it after the visit from Lisa."

Fellow pupil Tom McGoldrick added: "It was really exciting to have Lisa visiting our school.

"There is lots of adventure in her books."

A celebration of stories, books and words can be seen throughout the school, especially with its book fairy garden.

Amelie Ewen, of primary 3/2, said: "It's really exciting to read books.

"They take you to places you've never been before."
