A TALENTED teenager has proved he has the 'write stuff' after producing his own comic book series.

Devon McDowall, a fourth year pupil at Inverclyde Academy, has brought his creations to life in the form of his own fantastic stories, which he showcased at a recent school event.

The artistic 14-year-old says he has been blown away by the positive reaction his work has received.

He told the Tele: "I started working on my comics about two years ago.

"It's actually quite a funny story how it came about.

"I had been grounded and was in my room with just a paper, pens and pencils. That's when I came up with the idea of making a comic.

"What started that evening became 'The Dead', my first work, which was a comedy cartoon."

Devon is a talented artists and used his skills to bring his own ideas to life on the page. He has since produced his second comic, a sequel to his first work.

A chance meeting with the school librarian then led to the teen being able to showcase his efforts at a special event where he impressed industry experts.

He said: "I was speaking to Susan Morton, the school's former librarian.

"She told me about a comic con event at the school, so I brought my comic along to see what people thought.

"It was so popular that I ended up running out of issues to sell.

"There were people there who are quite respected in the industry and they were really impressed, so I was delighted by that. It was really encouraging."

Devon is now working on another comic about a boy who finds out he has a range of super powers - and hopes one day to own his own publishing company.

He said: "A lot of my ideas come right off the top of my head.

"I have a good imagination and love bringing my creations to life.

"I love reading comics, particularly superhero ones and I would like to think one day I could maybe run my own business doing what I love."
