A GREENOCK man continually challenged police officers to fight him — whilst running AWAY from them.

Dylan Hill ignored repeated pleas from his mother to calm down as he marched towards the PCs at 1am.

But the 20-year-old — who has been jailed over the incident — fled when the officers got out of their patrol car.

Prosecutor Frankie Morgan told the town's sheriff court: "The officers' attention was drawn to him because he was walking towards the vehicle waving his arms around.

"They stopped because they believed that he was seeking the assistance of the police.

"However, the accused began to shout and swear, stating, 'Come on then'."

Fiscal depute Mr Morgan added: "He was waving his arms around in an aggressive manner and challenging the police to fight.

"His mother made several attempts to calm him down.

"He made off and was chased by the officers while he was continually challenging them to a fight.

"The accused was stating various things, including, 'I'll have you'.

"He was thereafter arrested."

In another late night incident, Hill branded officers 'High Court grasses' as he tried to stop them from arresting another man.

Mr Morgan told the court: "The accused was clenching his fists and was preventing officers from accessing the rear garden.

"He was shouting, 'You're not getting anywhere near him — I will go a round with you, you want a square go?"

Hill, of Banff Road, breached an unpaid work imposed in May.

Defence lawyer David Tod said: "He is someone who has had genuine difficulties but has successfully completed orders in the past."

Sheriff Thomas Ward sentenced Hill to a total of 98 days, telling him: "The community payback order was a direct alternative to custody and you failed to do any of that order of any note."
