A SLEEPY shepherd kept the audience awake as Gourock Primary staged its wonderful nativity.

The magic of Christmas was brought to life by the pint-sized performers who sang and acted their hearts out as part of the fabulous show.

Each child played their part as the whole school teamed up for the traditional nativity.

Little Isla McClurg, who is in primary one, starred as Mary in the production.

She said: "It's good fun being on stage.

"I enjoyed every single moment of it."

Her classmate Ethan Docherty, who played Joseph, was equally as excited to perform.

Ethan said: "I looked after Mary and helped her on and off the stage."

Kirsty McCready, the P2/1 teacher, said she was proud of every pupil.

She said: "They have really worked hard and given it their all. We couldn't have asked for any more.

"They are a great bunch of kids."

The nativity featured the P1 to P3 pupils including the P3 music group, who played percussion instruments.

Miss McCready says it was a whole school effort to pull the show together.

She added: "I would like to thank Mrs Oliver, the P2/3 teacher and Miss Meechan, who teaches P1.

"We also couldn't have done it without our support staff who helped us with the costumes and the back drop.

"I would also like to thank Mr Sinclair for his work in putting the stage together."

Miss McCready says they are also grateful to pianist Lynn Hunter, who gave up her spare time help at the nativity.
