A GOUROCK school has started the year over £2,000 better off thanks to a festive fete which raised a fortune.

Hard working staff, pupils and parents at St Ninian's Primary generated £2,200 to support the school's extracurricular activities.

Head teacher Lesley McCabe said they are lucky to have such a supportive school community who go above and beyond to help out.

She said: "The fete was a great success and we raised £2,200, a fantastic amount, we're absolutely delighted.

"Our parent partnership fundraising committee are so generous to the school, as that money comes directly to the school to pay for extracurricular activities such as the school buses to sports events."

Mrs McCabe was particularly keen to thank Karin Forrest, the chair of the school's PTA.

She added: "Karin does a great job.

"She's great at rounding people up to help.

"The school staff were also out in force as were parents and families."

Local businesses also rallied round to support the school fete.

Mrs McCabe added: "The Gourock shops and businesses have been so generous and donated prizes.

"They have been a great support.

"I also want to thank Lewis Morgan, our former pupil who now plays for Celtic.

"He donated a shirt signed by all the first team."
