LADIES in Branchton are fighting fit as they embark on a new year fitness challenge.

The community centre is hosting a 30 Minutes for 30 Days challenge in 2020 and around 40 people of all ages flocked to the first day.

It is being driven forward by Fiona Jackson, who recently started as an admin assistant at the centre and is also a qualified personal trainer.

She said: "Me and my colleagues were thinking about something to get everyone going for the new year and get everyone fit and healthy.

"We've had a good turnout so far.

"New mums and people of all ages have come along."

Centre manager Willie Wilson says the exercise initiative is a good way to kick-start a new year.

He said: "There's been a buzz about it in the centre."

Fiona says that the sessions are free and designed to suit everyone.

She said: "It's only 30 minutes.

"Fitness is very important.

"It's a good way to banish the January blues and mums can bring their wee ones as well.

"You can't do that in the gym."

Lyndsey Shaw, 31, said: "I wanted to get fit for the new year and I had my baby in July, so I thought this was a good way to get started."

Carolanne McFadyen, 37, is also a new mum and making her first steps to get fit after the birth three months ago.

She said: "It's a good way to ease yourself back into it and it's great we can bring our babies along as well."

Fiona is running an evening class tonight and every Tuesday between 5.25 and 6.15pm.

Morning sessions start at 10am and all are welcome.
