THE search is on for local sporting heroes who grabbed glory during 2019.

The Inverclyde Sports Personality Awards will honour sportsmen and women, clubs, teams, volunteers and coaches who have made a difference over the last 12 months.

prizes will be presented at a glittering awards dinner at Greenock Town Hall on Friday March 27.

Chris Jewell from New Horizons Marketing, on behalf of the organisers, said: "Last year’s awards produced a considerable number of nominations and some very worthy winners.

"We know 2019 was a great year for many Inverclyde sportspeople so please nominate your local sporting heroes so they have the best chance of winning an award.

"They have got to be in it to win it."

The nine categories are Senior Sports Personality of the Year, Junior Sports Personality, Disabled Sports Personality, coach, club, team, school team, young volunteer and adult volunteer.

The event is organised by West College Scotland, Inverclyde Council/Active Schools, Inverclyde Leisure, New Horizons Marketing and sportscotland with technical help from 8digital.

Anyone, whether a club, official or individual can nominate in any and all of the nine categories either online on the awards website www.inverclydesportspersonality.com or download the forms there and complete and post them to Inverclyde Sports Personality Awards, 43a Esplanade, Greenock PA16 7RY.

Forms will also be available in all Inverclyde Leisure facilities.

Nomination should cover success during the 2019 calendar year and need to be in by February 3 either online or by post, with the requested photographs.

The net proceeds from the awards will go towards providing grants to aspiring Inverclyde sportspeople to help them compete at regional, national and international events.
