A MAN who has smashed up two of his former partner's cars is today facing a hefty compensation bill — and jail time.

John O'Donnell carried out his latest acts of wanton vandalism on the woman's Vauxhall Astra, after jumping on the windscreen of her previous vehicle, causing it to cave in.

Domestic abuse offender O'Donnell, 32, targeted the car as it sat parked outside his ex's home in Larkfield, striking it with an 'unknown object', jumping on the bonnet and repeatedly booting the windscreen.

He proceeded to kick the vehicle's mirrors until they became detached and also smashed the rear window by throwing rocks at it.

Greenock Sheriff Court heard that two of O'Donnell's previous domestic abuse convictions are for offences committed against the same woman.

The attack came after he was spared prison in 2018 for terrorising her, including chasing her and trashing her other car to the point that it was an insurance write-off.

In separate incidents, O'Donnell threw and broke her mobile phone and smashed house windows, then broke her phone and went for her car after she threatened to call police on him.

Prosecutor John Penman said of the latest incident: "The vehicle was very badly damaged.

"My information is that the complainer is seeking compensation, however, I don't as yet have a detailed breakdown of the cost of repair."

Sheriff Joseph Hughes said: "I am going to continue this matter for accurate figures from the complainer."

The sheriff told O'Donnell: "All [sentencing] options are open to the court.

"I think it's right that whoever presides over this case has all of the information, bearing in mind that a previous vehicle was completely written off."

Sentence on O'Donnell, of Auchmead Road, and consideration of a non-harassment order, has been further deferred until January 22.
