A PORT nursery is putting families first to give their children the best start in life.

Rainbow Family Centre is opening its doors to the whole community, giving parents the chance to experience a whole host of activities.

These include bookbug sessions for babies, a thriving community wing and toddlers' group where parents and children can form friendships which last a life time.

Depute head of centre Sonia McKay said: "We are all about families and the community and want to be at the very heart of our community.

"We run bookbug sessions for anyone to come along to, as well as toddler groups and cooking classes.

"There is so much that goes on here and it is for the whole community."

Rainbow will be even busier from August this year as tots aged three to five become entitled to 30 hours of early years education a week.

Sonia said: "It is a big change for everyone and will mean much more flexibility for parents.

"We are all really excited about it."

There will be plenty to keep the youngsters entertained at the nursery and it is set to open an outdoor classroom, giving children the chance to learn more outside.

Sonia added: "The children love learning outside in all weathers."

Indoors there is a reading corner, crafts and a 24-strong staff group supporting child-led play.

Rainbow Family Centre take babies from six months right up until pre school youngsters.
