ROTARIANS toasted a charity close to their hearts - and raised £800 to support it.

The Rotary Club of Greenock collected the cash for Guide Dogs for the Blind Association at their annual coffee morning.

People enjoyed a cuppa, cake and chat at Greenock Westburn in Nelson Street.

Bill Dempster, a member of rotary and the church, said: "T bulk of the money will go the association and some to local charities.

"The coffee morning was well attended, we actually had to put out more tables than we anticipated."

The group support a different charity every year and in the past have helped the British Heart Foundation and Prostate Cancer UK.

Bill said: "We are very pleased with the sum. It's £100 up on last year.

"We know it is just a drop in the ocean, but every penny helps.

"I believe it takes £50,000 to train a dog, it's not a cheap thing."

Bill says it was a good opportunity to promote the charity and the valuable work it does.

He said: "We get great support from members, the church and the local community for all our events. Our thanks to all."
