DETECTIVES have launched an investigation after a man was slashed in the face in the early hours of this morning in Greenock.
The serious assault happened just after 12.30am in Walker Street near Tasker Street.
Police say a group of men with a dog attacked the 35-year-old victim, who required several stitches to his face.
Detective Sergeant Neil Martin of Greenock CID said the serious assault appears to be a targeted attack.
He said: "The male sustained a deep laceration wound to the right hand side of his face.
"It appears there was an altercation between the male and approximately five to six other males.
"The injured party attended the IRH where he received a number of stitches to the facial wound and was later released."
DS Martin is now appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
He added: "We are appealing for witnesses who saw the group of males or anyone with dash cam footage to come forward.
