YOUNG singer songwriters have proved they are 'top of the pops' by creating their own music single.

The catchy song 'A Wonderful Place to Be' is topping the charts at St Michael's Primary School.

Senior pupils helped to write and record the lyrics with the help of P6 class teacher Andrew McShane, who is a popstar in his own right.

Mr McShane, who is also a bass player in the well-known Inverclyde band 'The Lovelles', told the Tele the senior pupils showed a real flair for writing, recording and promoting their music.

He said: "The song is called 'A Wonderful Place to Be' and the lyrics are all about the school at Christmas time and how it's an amazing place.

"I brought my studio recording equipment into the school and the pupils rose to the occasion. They got right into it almost immediately and I think we could have a few budding stars at St Michael's.

"They ended up developing a wee enterprise out of it as they sold the CDs at their Winter Wonderland festive fete.

"The response was fantastic."

Pupil Logan Miller, who was one of the lead vocalists on the track, said it was an amazing experience.

He said: "I love music, I'm a budding singer/songwriter and I hope it will be my career in the future.

"It was great to be in a band with all my classmates and other people in the school.

"It was really good that we also had the chance to sell on the tune we had worked so hard on.

"We also performed it at Christmas time and everyone seemed to really like it. It has inspired me to keep working on my own music."

Thanks to pupils' hard work, the disc sales raised £220.

Mr McShane added: "The money raised will go towards school funds."
