GREGGS has served up four fresh jobs at a brand new cafe which has opened in Greenock.

The bakery chain has become the first tenant to move into a retail development on the site of the former Larkfield Masonic Association (LMA) hall on Auchmead Road.

The cafe replaces the Greggs on West Blackhall Street in Greenock town centre, which closed in November last year.

Existing staff members have joined four new recruits, who welcomed customers for the first time early yesterday morning.

Manager Kay McLean said: "There's so much more space than the other shop. It's lovely.

"People were in right away as soon as we opened and said it was gorgeous and that they'll be in all the time, which is nice.

"A lot of people have also said how they knew we were opening but they didn't know it would be a cafe.

"I think the cafe will be a good addition to the area."

The Greggs cafe can seat 18 people and will be open seven days a week for customers to sit in or take away.

The opening hours are 7am until 6pm Monday to Saturday and from 9am and 5pm on Sundays.

Pizza chain Domino's is due to open on Monday with convenience store chain Nisa next up at the Auchmead Road retail development.

The site was home to the former LMA club until it was demolished following a serious fire in August 2016.

Planning permission for a retail development on the land was initially granted two years ago.
