TEARFUL tots say they are heartbroken after cruel vandals wrecked their new luxury playhouse - just days after it was delivered.

Staff and kids at Larkfield Children's Centre in Greenock were delighted after winning it through an online competition.

But just days after it was delivered, mindless yobs wrecked it beyond repair.

Mum Lynsey Harte says her four-year-old son Milo was so upset by the vandalism that he took his toy toolkit to nursery in the hope that he could fix it himself.

She said: "I feel devastated for the kids.

"Milo was upset. He brought his toolkit in and said to me, 'I will go and fix it mummy'."

Laura Watson, whose four-year-old son Nathan attends the nursery, added: "It's so demoralising to look at it.

"Everybody is really upset about it."

Four-year-old Connor Brodie told our sister newspaper The Greenock Telegraph: "I feel sad. It makes me angry because there was no need for anyone to do this."

Equally as upset was tot Euan Patterson, four, who said: "I feel so angry."

Theresa McGoldrick, head of centre, says that staff, parents and children are gutted by the mindless vandalism.

She said: "We were delighted to win a new playhouse through a competition organised by Apex Sheds in Falkirk.

"The shed was delivered on Monday last week but it lasted just five days.

"We left the nursery at 5.10pm on Friday evening and when our janitor came in on Monday morning at 7am, she discovered the shed had been destroyed."

The culprits smashed the toy home's windows, daubed blue paint all over it and broke the door and planks to the point they can't be repaired.

Theresa added: "The children were so excited when it was delivered and they loved the time they had playing in it.

"It's so disappointing that they've only had it for five days and it has been destroyed.

"They are devastated and the parents are furious."

Theresa says the playhouse played an important part in the nursery's learning programme.

She said: "The children do a lot of role play within the playhouse, so without it they are missing out on that.

"But we will not let this deter us. We will keep going and find a way back because using the outdoors is so important now to what we do."

This is just the latest in a long line of vandal attacks on the nursery's outdoor play area. In October, yobs wrecked two previous playhouses within a matter of weeks.

Nursery staff have reported the latest incident to police, who are investigating.
