A SUPER songbird from a Greenock care home has been hitting the high notes with the Clydeside Singers.

Larkfield View resident Irene Brannigan, 77, loves singing and was delighted to get the chance to perform along with the popular choir.

Staff say the talented senior citizen is always keeping everyone at the home entertained.

Activities co-ordinator Linda Daisley said: "Irene is constantly singing and there isn't a song she doesn't know.

"She keeps everyone entertained and is such a character and a beautiful lady.

"I spoke with choir leader Mary Greig and she agreed that singing with the group would be a wonderful experience.

"Mary asked for a playlist of Irene's favourite songs so the choir could learn them before meeting Irene."

Irene's hit parade included Who's Sorry Now and Stupid Cupid by Connie Francis and (I Can't Help) Falling in Love with You by Elvis Presley.

The Greenock pensioner was presented with a Clydeside Singers t-shirt to make her officially part of the group and her family and friends were invited along to her performance.

Linda said: "The Clydeside Singers sang for an hour and Irene sang the full set with them.

"It was amazing."

Linda runs weekly musical chit chat sessions at the home and has started musical bingo on Fridays.

She said: "We put the music on and then we pass the mic around and residents take to the floor.

"We also do musical bingo and instead of numbers we have songs - we play a few notes then they mark it off their card.

"Music keeps their spirits up, it's amazing that they know every word of these songs.

Bosses at Larkfield View, which is part of the Holmes Care Group, want to thank Mary and the rest of the Clydeside Singers for making Irene’s day and for entertaining all the residents and staff.
