A TOP athlete from Inverclyde is on track for glory of a different kind after starting up his own business.

Talented long distance runner Jonny Glen, who has represented both Scotland and Great Britain, is now running his own personal training business.

The 23-year-old from South Street, who aims to compete at a future Commonwealth Games, says his personal experience as a professional athlete coupled with his PT qualification are a winning combination.

He said: "Personal training has always been a big dream of mine.

"I am offering online coaching and one-on-one personal training services focused entirely around people.

"Whatever people's individual goals and ambitions are, big or small, I will help to fulfill them.

"I pride myself in having an in-depth knowledge of gym-based exercise and in my ability to offer advice on nutrition as well as general health, as these play a major role in achieving maximum effort and maintaining safety when your body is being pushed to its limits.

"I have an extensive background in running and have competed for many years at a national level, having represented my country and GB on many occasions, so rest assured I know the commitment it takes to get fit and how to help take you there."

In August last year, Jonny returned home to Greenock after completing a three year sports scholarship with the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, America.

He said: "It was really good.

"I spent three years over there so it was great life experience.

"I achieved a communications degree with a minor in management."

Now back in Scotland, Jonny's main focus is his new JG Fitness business while also working as a sport coach in schools.

On the running front, Jonny, who is a member of Inverclyde Athletic Club, has his sights set on Commonwealth glory.

He said: "At the moment, 5k and 10k are my preferred distances but I'm also looking to run marathons in the future.

"At some point in the future I also want to try going for the Commonwealth Games - that's one of my goals."

Jonny, a former Clydeview Academy pupil, says he's so grateful for the backing he has received locally for his new venture

He told the Tele: "I want to thank everyone and especially my coach Mark Pollard who has been really supportive."
