THE family of a popular Port Glasgow 'legend’ are set for a fifth football match in his memory just after what would have been his golden wedding anniversary.

Devoted family man and well-known local singer Tom Bell sadly passed away 14 years ago after suffering heart failure.

As a tribute to the loving husband, dad and grandad, his family are staging the charity event at Parklea on Friday.

His wife Moira, of West Woodside Avenue, says the match and their charity race night is a way to thank friends and family who have helped to raise thousands of pounds for good causes over the years in memory of Tom.

Moira said: "I'm so glad we do it every year.

"Tom would be chuffed to bits.

"He did so much for everybody else and raised lots of money for charity for years."

Tom's daughter Kirsty added: "We're really looking forward to it."

The football match in memory of Tom, who has four grandchildren Ceilidh Bell, Lewis Bell, Morgan Sorrell and Logan Sorrell kicks off at 5.30pm.

Afterwards there will be a party at Port Glasgow Bowling Club from 8pm where there will be a presentation of medals, a raffle and entertainment from the band No Contract.

The family are keen to thank Jeff Spurway for agreeing to referee, as well as George at Trophy Box and Inverclyde Leisure for their help with medals and the pitch.

They also want to thank Gordon Findlay, Provost Martin Brennan and his PA Selina, Smiths Sports and Port Glasgow Bowling Club.
