INVERKIP Primary pupils are set for a new adventure in their playground thanks to a massive fundraising campaign.

Parents have led a bid for a state of the art outdoors 'Trim Trail' to open up opportunities for outdoor play.

With support from head teacher Diane Renfrew the school community has been busy raising the money needed to make it happen.

Now as they near their total it is hoped a Little Mix tribute band gig will push them over the finish line.

Head teacher Diane Renfrew said: "We have an area of land which was previously too marshy to do anything with.

"The parents and pupils were really keen to put an adventure play area in place at the school so we set up about raising the money.

"It has been a huge success so far and the children have been so enthusiastic."

Inverclyde Council has agreed to invest £30,000 to drain the land.

Diane said: "This is a great commitment from the council."

Inverkip parent Tracy Johnson is determine to have the adventure play area in place by spring and she has organised the Little Fix tribute concert, which takes place in Inverclyde Academy on Saturday.

Tracy, who has a six-year-old daughter Zoe in primary two, said :"It will be great for the school to get a trim trail and we were really keen to find ways to raise the money.

"I thought of Little Fix and my daughter and I are so excited about the gig.

"Inverkip Primary is a great wee school and we want to do more to help.

"The school is the reason that I moved here in the first place.

"I volunteer here and I am delighted to be involved in whatever way I can to help."

The parent council have organised a series of fundraisers throughout the year to fund the obstacle course.

These include an enterprising event selling Mother's Day and Father's Day gifts to pupils.

Primary four pupil Skye Smith, who already has her Little Fix concert tickets, said: "I will be going with my mum and I am super excited."

Her friend Amy Munro, also eight, can't wait until the Trim Trail is in the playground and has been keeping track of the total.

She added: "It is going to be great fun. We are nearly there now."

The Little Fix gig at Inverclyde Academy on Saturday runs from 2-5pm.
