POLICE and paramedics rushed to a major disturbance at Greenock's Inverkip Street this afternoon.

It is understood that a ‘number of 'individuals have been fighting with weapons in the vicinity.

Six police cars and an ambulance went to the scene.

The alert came at 3.13pm and the emergency services are understood to have arrived around five minutes later.

It is not known how many people were involved in the disturbance.

Sergeant Danny Godfrey, of Greenock police, said: "There has been a disturbance whereby males have been fighting with weapons.

"We are currently trying to ascertain if anyone has been injured."

The situation is currently described as an 'ongoing investigation'.
