A BOMB squad sealed off part of the waterfront in Gourock after a possible explosive object was reported on the River Clyde shoreline.
Police were contacted around 1pm and alerted the Royal Navy, who drafted in their disposal unit and rushed to the scene at Cloch Road near to Lunderston Bay.
It's understood that a member of the public spotted the item and called the emergency services, who remain on the scene.
The authorities have not yet released any information about the nature of the item which has been discovered.
The car park at Lunderston Bay is currently closed as investigations continue.
