NICKY Cadden has been named the Ladbrokes Championship Player of the Month after a superb run of February form.

Cadden has been a stand-out in recent weeks during a season that has seen him net 10 goals and set up twice as many.

Although gutted by Tuesday’s late 3-2 defeat at Inverness, Caden feels Morton are in a good place and told the Tele he is delighted his own performances have been recognised.

He said: “February was a great month and it could have been even better. We drew a few games we should have won so we could have been really well up the table.

“All the boys were devastated on Tuesday night to lose the late goal but we’ll be ready for Arbroath at home today.

“The target is 42 points and then anything else on top of that is bonus. But if we keep going the way we are going then you never know what can happen.”

Boss David Hopkin is desperate to tie Cadden down on a new deal and the winger says he's enjoyed working under the former Scotland midfielder.

He said: “I was with the gaffer at Livi and I really enjoyed that. He asked me to come in an speak to him when he got the Morton job and it was like old friends meeting again.

“I just wanted to get the deal through as soon as possible.

“He likes me, I like the way he works and he seems to get the best out of me so it was a no-brainer and it seems to be working well.

“I just want to focus on getting Morton secure in the Championship and then we’ll take it from there.”

The Cappielow winger is thrilled to see his brother Chris make the step to Major League Soccer with Columbus Crew and says he's scarcely off the phone to his former Motherwell star sibling, despite the time difference.

He said: “My dad and I were sitting watching the game with New York City last weekend just waiting for him to come on.

“Then when he did get on there was a great moment when we thought he was going to score.

“He was in a great position and just needed to be played in and me and my dad were up on our feet screaming for the guy to make the pass but it didn’t happen.

“If was so good to see him make his debut, though.

“We’re in contact every day whether it’s texting or on the phone and he’s been telling me how great it is. When I hear all the tales I wonder if I could get a shot at that one day.

“It’s great for Chris and we’ll see where it takes him.”
