LITTLE storytellers at Blairmore Nursery celebrated World Book Day with a teddy bears' picnic — with each cuddly toy having their own tale to tell.

Author Susan Wilson — who tells traditional stories to audiences of all ages — had the children captivated by telling a story verbally and using puppets and other props.

It inspired the youngsters to imagine their teddies on their own special adventures and tell everyone about them.

Blairmore early years education and childcare officer Layna Martin said: "Susan showed that there are other ways to telling and following a story.

"The children really engaged with her from the first minute and it helped their listening skills as well.

"They then made up their own stories about their teddy bears and cuddly toys and it was a joy to see their imaginations in full flow."

Storyteller Susan specialises in Scottish traditional tales and she also sings the occasional ballad or song during her performances.

She used her loveable story-finding puppet called Onion who has a magic story bag containing lots of amazing stories.

Layna said: "World Book Day is all about literacy skills but it is also about stories in general, telling them verbally and listening and engaging.

"It was a great day and everyone had a lovely time."
