All of Inverclyde's schools will close by the end of the week.
The news comes after an announcement by Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon in the last few minutes as she outlines the Scottish Government's latest moves to tackle the coronavirus pandemic.
There are still many issues to be ironed out around school closure including pupils who currently receive free school meals.
Ms Sturgeon said: “We must not cut adrift vulnerable children.
"At this stage, I cannot promise that they (schools) will reopen before the summer holidays"
