POLICE are hunting a pair of thugs who hurled petrol bombs at a property and a vehicle in the middle of Greenock.

The terrifying late night attack happened on Holmscroft Avenue, near to Greenock Health Centre.

It took place around 11.40pm on Sunday evening and detectives who have launched a full investigation are today treating it as a 'targeted attack'.

The first bottle containing accelerant was hurled at the patio doors of the property, which caused a minor blaze.

The owner of the property was able to extinguish the fire before calling emergency services for help.

The duo also proceeded to hurl another accelerant-filled bottle at a vehicle - smashing a window before landing on the ground.

Police officers believe the attackers were wearing dark coloured clothing and driving a small dark motor vehicle.

The vehicle drove away from the scene with a passenger shouting out of the window.

Police say they are keen to identify the dangerous thugs urgently and are appealing for witnesses who may have any further information.

Officers were on the scene yesterday as inquiries into the attack continue.

The property which was targeted was cordoned off as forensics experts combed the scene looking for clues.

Officers say they are also looking to obtain any personal CCTV footage of the area, or dashcam footage from vehicles parked nearby.

If you have any information call Greenock CID on 101 or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
