A PORT Glasgow musician has penned a love song to the NHS in support of a fundraising campaign to save lives.

Singer and songwriter John Morgan paid tribute to all those on the frontline in the battle against the coronavirus in his 'NHS appreciation song - Thank You.

He is one of the many musicians performing on the Inverclyde Lockdown Live online platform.

Thousands of people stuck at home in the lockdown have tuned in for live sofa sessions from some of the best local performers showcasing their talents.

The organisers are appealing for those watching to donate to a fund to provide protective gear for frontline NHS staff.

John, who played a live set from his living room, said: "I wrote the song just to say thank-you.

"I have had such lovely feedback.

"It is great to have such a lovely reaction.

"It was very personal to me.

"My 13-year-old son's mum is a doctor and we are friends and I wanted to write this to recognise the dangers our NHS staff are putting themselves in.

"The NHS are just fantastic.

"I would encourage everyone to donate to the fund."

The 38-year-old who stays in Mount Pleasant, on Barrs Brae, has been writing and performing since he was in a teenager and has played gigs up and down the country.

He played during a Saturday night Inverclyde Lockdown Live line up which attracted more than 6,000 views.

John added: "It is a fantastic idea and just a great opportunity for everyone."

Throughout the week there are live performances with talent of all ages, showcasing youngsters singing, as well as musicians who are well-established on the local circuit.

Organiser Lynette Beaton said: "It was fantastic to have John with us, he is brilliant.

"His song seems to be going down really well."
