A LOCAL hero has gone to the rescue of an Gourock pensioner who had been left without a television for three weeks.

The 86-year-old had a fault with her TV and Craig Shearer, aerial and satellite engineer, responded to an appeal on social media to help the elderly lady.

Craig was delighted to step in and help.

He said: "I saw the post about the elderly lady and I thought about her self-isolating and not having her television.

"It's bad enough being stuck in the house without having your TV to watch."

The OAP is vulnerable and her family asked that her name remained private.

But her son was swift to heap praise on Craig for helping them out.

He said: "She hasn't had her TV for three weeks.

"It runs off a satellite dish and I think there was some water ingress.

"She was only able to watch the odd DVD but they were running out.

"We are all delighted.

"We tried umpteen places but they were unwilling to come out because of the current circumstances."

The family say they are very grateful to Craig, who refused to accept any money for his trouble.

The lady's son said: "I sent him a direct message to get his details so we can tell everyone about him.

"He refused to take any money, which I thought was most kind of him, especially at this time when jobs are drying up."

Modest Craig has been in the business for 10 years and co-owns Shearer & McNicol Aerial and Satellite.

He said: "It wasn't a big job, just a wee fault at the dish."
