A PAIR of crafty kids from Kilmacolm have created an open air art gallery to raise funds for the NHS.

Brother and sister Patrick and Lana McAlindon have displayed their artwork along the pavement outside their house on Hazlemere Road for walkers to enjoy.

The pair, who are seven and four-years-old, used frames that mum Ana-Marija had in the garage and have even made a barrier to give it a professional feel.

Ana-Marija said: "Lana absolutely loves to draw, it is one of her favourite things to do at Kilmacolm Nursery.

"She is missing her class and friends, so when I was de-cluttering and found the frames, which I used to enjoy refurbishing, she asked if we could use them to display her artwork.

"One thing led to another and with the weather being so nice, we decided to put them outside to make passers-by smile."

Like real art galleries, the creative youngsters have put a 'donations welcome' box with the artwork, so anyone wishing to contribute to their NHS fundraising can do so.

Ana-Marija told the Tele: "We've been putting the gallery out every day around 10am and bringing it back in at night around 8pm.

"People have been leaving notes to say how much it's cheered them up and I can see people stop and admiring it every day.

"We've just been trying to keep busy as both of the kids are really missing school.

"I sent photos of the gallery to Patrick's teachers at Kilmacolm Primary so he's really proud of it."

Ana-Marija, her husband Andrew, stepson Daniel and the kids are keeping busy as best they can during the coronavirus lockdown.

Andrew - who works as an actor and has starred on Outlander - and Ana-Marija own a company called Highlander Tours and take tourists across Scotland in their nine-seater minibus.

However, as a result of the virus, it faces an uncertain future.

Ana-Marija said: "It's not easy at the moment and with our usual visitors not being able to travel we are particularly worried we may lose the business.

"We're hoping those who had tours booked already will rearrange them rather than cancel them and we can continue working after the pandemic."

The family have set up a JustGiving page for people who have enjoyed the gallery to make a small donation and are hoping to raise £100 for NHS heroes.

Ana-Marija said: "We know that when people are out on their one walk a day they may not have cash on them, so we're hoping this will allow people who perhaps may have donated a few pounds to do so online."
