A YOUNG man is fighting for his life after an alleged murder bid in Port Glasgow.

A large police presence rushed to the scene of the incident on Highholm Street on Monday.

A 21-year old male was discovered with serious injuries in a flat and he was taken to hospital in an ambulance.

It is understood he had been stabbed repeatedly on the body.

He was initially taken to Inverclyde Royal before being transferred to the Golden Jubilee Hospital in Clydebank, where his condition was described as 'critical'.

The street was cordoned off as police launched a full investigation into the attack and a heavy police presence remained at the site for several hours.

Eight police vehicles were in attendance at one point, with uniformed officers and detectives joined by scenes of crimes colleagues wearing forensic suits.

Detectives have made three arrests in connection with the alleged attack.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers received a report of a disturbance within a property on Highholm Street in Port Glasgow shortly after 8.40am on Monday 4 May.

"A 21-year-old man has been taken to hospital for treatment to serious injuries.

"Two men, aged 27 and 20, and a 25-year-old woman have been arrested in connection with the incident and enquiries are ongoing."
