THE Greenock Telegraph has a proud history of fighting for what is right and standing up for Inverclyde.

There is clear concern over plans to dock cruise ships in Greenock and bring thousands of people ashore amid the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

Only the Scottish Government have the power to halt the plan drawn up by harbour authority Peel Ports. That is why we took the question of what they plan to do all the way to the country's First Minister.

Our front pages of recent days have clearly made waves in Holyrood as Nicola Sturgeon was aware of the issue when we put the question to her live on television as part of her daily coronavirus briefing to the nation.

From her response, perhaps she doesn't quite grasp the level of concern in the area about the matter.

The next step will be for our politicians to also ask questions of the government, its position and how it intends to proceed.

People deserve transparency and answers, not meetings behind closed doors and flimsy responses.

This is one story that is quite clearly going to continue to make headlines.

ON a more positive note, new figures have shown that Inverclyde Academy is one of the most improved schools in the country when it comes to exam pass rates.

A lot has been invested in the area's schools estate and we are certainly now seeing the the benefits.

Head teacher Denise Crawford and her team should be very proud.
