A THOUGHTFUL primary school teacher from the Port has set up an online platform to help wee ones continue to learn in lockdown.

Christine Campbell launched Little Home Genius on Instagram and Facebook to provide parents with some ideas to help keep kids aged three to six learning when they're not in nursery or school.

Christine, has two boys Alex, four, and Jamie, three, and created the site after other teachers and parents contacted her for tips on how to get youngsters learning when they're at home.

Christine, 36, said: "I have two wee ones and it's difficult to think of different thing to keep them engaged.

"You have to research a lot.

"I noticed that there wasn't that much out there for younger children, so I thought it would be helpful to provide some ideas from my teaching career.

"I know how hard it is at the moment and want to do my bit to give something back.

"I've been meaning to do this for so long and it just seemed like the right time.

"If it helps people then that's great."

Christine posts colourful pictures and clear explanations of all of the activities and every activity is practical and interactive and can be adapted for older children.

Parents can pick up ideas about phonics, maths, reading, high frequency words, and letter and number formation.

Christine graduated from the University of Glasgow in 2008 and went on to teach at St Mary's Primary in Greenock.

She subsequently moved to Wales and has been teaching at Cardiff's Ton-Yr-Ywen Primary School for 11 years.

In her almost 13 years as a teacher, she has taught every age and primary class.

Christine says she knew she wanted to become a teacher when she was on work experience at Holy Family Primary School in Port Glasgow as a teenager.

She said: "I loved it and knew then that was what I wanted to do.

"The best thing about it is that feeling when you teach something and you see the moment that the child gets it and their confidence grows.

"That's the best feeling in the world."

Christine plans to keep Little Home Genius going for younger children and will also be running parent workshops for parent looking for ideas.
