LANDLORD and former Inverclyde Provost Ciano Rebecchi opens up today about his family's fears for the future of their business.

Councillor Ciano Rebecchi, whose wife Diane is licensee at the Burns Lounge in Braeside, does not expect to reopen this year and fears they might be forced to call last orders.

The couple have owned the Burns Lounge for 45 years and it is a good old fashioned pub, a hub of for its neighbourhood with charity events and days out for customers.

Along with restaurants, pubs certainly face an uncertain future.

It is difficult to imagine how social distancing, which seems here to stay for some time, can work. Many places will find a way, but many just won't get that chance.

Let's hope plenty in Inverclyde are innovative enough to be able to chart a way through - and that people, when the time is right, come back out to support them.

WHAT a sterling effort by Branchton Community Centre during the coronavirus outbreak to deliver 10,000 meals to our most needy.

There have been some extraordinary shows of kindness and community spirit, but the team at Branchton have been a true example of all that's good about Inverclyde.

Along with projects like Your Voice and Belville Community Garden, they've gone above and beyond to look out for the vulnerable.
