CRAFTY young entrepreneurs who clocked on to a timely business concept with a range of quirky timepieces ticked every box with judges to reach the national final of a Young Enterprise competition.

The St Columba's High School pupils proved seconds to none by recycling discarded biscuit tin lids, old vinyl records and scraps of tartan to create products to chime with their eco-friendly ethos.

Their Hour Crafty Clocks venture stormed to victory in the Renfrewshire regional heat of the Young Enterprise Scotland Festival of Enterprise competition shortly before the coronavirus lockdown.

Now the team from the Gourock secondary is preparing for the virtual Scottish final on June 2.

They are up against 14 rivals from across the country — and your vote could help them win the people's choice award.

Hour Crafty Clocks managing director Callum Laing, 17, said: "It's been a great experience for all of us and one that we're all keen to continue because it feels good to make money and recycle things that would normally be binned.

"We've not had teachers telling us what to do, we've taken the initiative and made our own decisions about everything.

"Our slogan is 'Seconds to None' and I think everyone who has bought our clocks would agree with that.

"We're helping the environment by reusing things and making something that will be in someone's house for years to come."

The full team is also made up of Lucy Findlay, company secretary; Robbie McGregor, marketing director; Sean Fischer-Keogh, sales director; Calum Robertson, finance director; Sophie Leitch and Eva Turner, finance team; Luke Parker, HR director; Kara Leck, social media director; Mrs Wright, link teacher; and Heather McCullough, business adviser and owner of Gourock's Pirate and Bluebelle shop.

Inverclyde Chamber of Commerce is backing the team and you can vote for them on the Young Enterprise Scotland website — https://yes.org.uk/competitions/festival-of-enterprise-2020
