TWO blade thugs stabbed a man to his chest and back in a targeted attack in Gourock shortly after midnight.
The 25-year-old victim was set upon by the pair on the town's Shore Street in the early hours of yesterday.
Detectives are now hunting the attackers — one of whom was wearing a dark face mask — and appealing for information.
One suspect is described as being in his 20s, tall, masked and wearing dark clothing.
The other is also said to be in his 20s, of smaller height and he was also wearing dark clothes.
A police cordon was thrown around the incident scene and uniformed officers stood guard at the area.
Detective Inspector David Wagstaff, of Greenock CID, said: "There was a disturbance in the street and a 25-year-old male was stabbed to his chest and back.
"It would appear to have been a targeted attack on this individual."
It is understood that the man's injuries are not serious although he is being kept under observation at Inverclyde Royal Hospital.
Information should be passed to the police via the 101 number, or anonymously via Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.
