A ROYAL Navy ship familiar to Telegraph readers has just become Britain's most modern mine counter-measures vessel following a major upgrade.
Faslane-based HMS Pembroke is now equipped with the very latest in a state-of-the-art technology system called ORCA — Oceanographic Reconnaissance Combat Architecture.
The Navy says that the replacement for an existing mine counter-measures command system called NAUTIS has allowed the service to 'maintain its position at the tip of the global minehunting spear'.
Petty Officer Matthew Routliffe, ops room supervisor, said: "After a busy integration of a new command system on HMS Pembroke and successful acceptance trials, ORCA is a step forward for the mine warfare cadre, ensuring the Royal Navy continues to be a global leader."
