THREE more people in Inverclyde have lost their lives to coronavirus.

The death toll now stands at 106 but the rate of fatalities has steadily fallen since figures were first made public four weeks ago.

Over the last week one person died in a care home while two passed away in hospital.

Inverclyde still has a death rate considerably higher than the rest of the country, with 13.5 per 10,000 people compared to the Scottish average of 6.5.

Council leader Stephen McCabe said: "Each death is a tragedy and on behalf of the council I pass on our condolences and prayers.

"Our area continues to be sitting at a higher level than other areas though the gap is narrowing."

Since the outbreak began, 35 people have died in care homes, 60 in hospital and 11 at home.
