PEOPLE across Inverclyde are being urged to stay vigilant and be on the lookout for scams.
Inverclyde Council’s trading standards officers received numerous reports about a fake email detailing 'how to reclaim hundreds of pounds in council tax'.
Other incidents reported include quizzes asking for personal information, bogus emails, texts and calls, fake supermarket vouchers and hoax online adverts offering discount codes.
Companies have also been offering to 'cleanse' properties of COVID-19.
Councillor Michael McCormick, convener of Inverclyde Council’s environment and regeneration committee, said: "Scammers never miss a chance to try and part people from their money.
"For them, the coronavirus is just another opportunity to feed on people's fears.
"People need to weigh up what they are being offered against the advice from the NHS, Inverclyde Council and the Scottish Government."
